A Tale of Two Sweet 16 Cakes

Beautiful creations. Although, it makes me sad that these are the things that teens aspire to, or feel personifies them. :(
I hear you. It is kind of unfortunate that we are led to believe that to be accepted in society or happy that we have to have all the right "stuff". And kids are most succeptible to the pressures of belonging. BUT, having said that, I, as an artist see good design as fodder for creating more good design. I'm pleased that people want beautiful objects in their lives and that a cake, as fleeting as it's existence is, can bring delight and joy for a few moments. It is, indeed, a conundrum.
Actually, I love design too. And I'm not opposed to spending for it. The part I object to is not that they love design -- but that they love the status of the logos. You can have good design without using it to keep up with the Joneses.
